BioSWOT-Med blog: The new ocean glider has arrived!

The new ocean glider SEA090 was delivered today at MIO!

The MIO-SAM facility people is preparing it for its first mission at sea during the BIOSWOT-Med cruise. Thanks to Nagib Bhairy, Jean-Luc Fuda and colleagues! A big thank you to Aurélia Lonzigot et Amandine Naim-Liotard for their support!

The glider doesn’t have propellers or an internal engine, but it moves thanks to the buoyancy force and is remotely piloted by satellite communication. It measures Temperature, Salinity and other ocean properties along its route up and down through the water column.

The purchase of this instrumentation is funded by CNES SWOT Cal/Val.
