Video: What is SWOT and what is Its Role in Climate Change ?

The Office for Climate Education (OCE) in partnership with CNES developed a series of five videos that explain how the SWOT satellite works and how it can be used to understand climate change.

In this first video, Francesco d’Ovidio (Researcher at LOCEAN-IPSL / CNRS) and Hind Oubanas (Researcher at INRAE G-eau) introduce the innovative SWOT (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) satellite mission. They explain how its high-resolution radar pulses measure water elevation with unprecedented precision, revolutionizing Earth observation. This video highlights how SWOT sheds new light on ocean currents and water levels, underscoring the critical importance of monitoring our changing climate and global waters.
